Today we welcome Maria Semple. She has been ind enough to give us some answers to a few questions.
Maria has written and Fabulous book
For the most part, yes. My way into Sally was that she felt incredibly anxious. In response to that, she felt compelled to control everything and everyone she came into contact with. That was really at the core of her character. So after her travails, at the end of the book, when she is in the support group and she shares that she wakes up every morning and says to God, "Surprise me"-- that is meant to indicate that she has given herself over to something higher, more spiritual, and that her controlling days are behind her. Also, at the awards ceremony, I wanted to show that, for the first time, Sally sees Jeremy for the first time for who he really is-- a charming, quirky guy. That, too, is a sign she has overcome a lot since the beginning of the book.
Do you feel forgiving is a big must in life?
Yes! What else is there, really? Otherwise you're stuck.
Life seems to come at you so fast in The One is MINE. Is there a secret you might know to keep your sanity?
That question implies a certain amount of sanity on my part. I know personally, my struggle is to stay in the present, keep off the computer, not to overextend myself, and do yoga as much as possible.
Is there one thing you hope your readers get from this book, what would that be?
A good time. Seriously, that's what I was going for while writing the book. To give readers a really fun, slightly wild reading experience.
Now for my random Question. If you had to run to the hills because of some crazy natural disaster and you could only bring 3 physical items with you what would those be? (besides your loved ones)
A really good knife.
A pen and paper (I'm counting that as one.)
Sunblock.

I love that sunblock was on her list of three must haves...I'm not sure what mine would be but sunblock seems like a good one...maybe asprin as well lol!
I should really take her advice and limit the amount of time I spend on the computer.. I bet it does wonders.
