Joelle Anthony; Restoring Harmony Interview

   We all know how much I loved Restoring Harmony. Well I love Joelle Anthony just as much. She has kindly asked me to come along as part of her book tour. As part of the tour she has answered a few questions I had.

If you could get a chance to live in the world in Restoring Harmony even for a week would you?

Well, it depends on where I had to live! If it was Molly’s island, I’d live like that the rest of my life – growing our own food, hard work, no cars…but if I had to live out in the “real world” I created, I’d probably not want to do it more than a week, but I’d try it.



Is being an Author all that you'd hoped it would be?

I can’t really think of a better job (or I’d probably do it because being an author is fun, but not particularly easy!). I really love it. A kid I know from the school where I teach writing introduced me to his mother as “an author” the other day. This is the first time it had happened and I have to say, I kind of felt like I should look over my shoulder and find the author in the room. “Who’s the author? Me? Oh…oh, yeah! Me!” It was great.



What inspired you to write Molly's character?

I get ideas for stories like, “What if a teen had to do X because of X?” and then I wait for a character to sort of pop into my head and tell me their story. I handle getting it down on paper and the technical side, like plotting and meeting deadlines, but characters seem to spring to life all on their own for me, so I don’t think anything inspired Molly. She just showed up one day with a story to tell.

Did you ever have a different ending or have a hard time finding the perfect ending?

The manuscript I sent in that landed me my fabulous agent actually ended a lot sooner than it does in the finished book. He wanted to sign me, but he did tell me up front that I still needed to write the ending because it was missing! My husband and I went on the roadtrip that Molly makes (in our truck) and that gave me all the information I needed to write the ending.


Now for my random question. If you could spend one day doing an extreme sport, What would it be? 

I don’t know if you’d consider baseball an extreme sport, but it would probably feel like it to me. I’d want to play baseball with the Chicago Cubs. I once took pitches in a batting cage and the speed of the was set to “farm team” and it killed my hands every time I got a hit. Of course, they were metal bats, but still…. The pitchers on the Cubbies would have to lob the ball to me!
